How to Earn WAIRE Points and Improve Air Quality with EV Charging Infrastructure

The Warehouse Actions and Investments to Reduce Emissions (WAIRE) Program is a new program implemented by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) to reduce nitrogen oxide and diesel emissions associated with warehouses. The program aims to improve local and regional air quality by reducing emissions from the goods movement industry, which is a major source of air pollution in the South Coast Air Basin.

The WAIRE Program is a menu-based point system. Warehouse operators can earn WAIRE Points by completing actions off the WAIRE Menu, by implementing an approved Custom WAIRE Plan, or by paying a mitigation fee every year.

The WAIRE Menu includes a variety of actions that can be taken to reduce emissions, such as:

  • Improving vehicle fuel efficiency

  • Switching to cleaner-burning fuels

  • Reducing idling

  • Using alternative delivery methods

  • Investing in energy efficiency upgrades

The WAIRE Program is phased in over time, with larger warehouses required to comply first. The program is expected to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 1,500 tons and diesel emissions by 1,000 tons per year.

One way that warehouses can earn WAIRE points is by installing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Eneridge provides a turnkey EV charging infrastructure service that can help warehouses meet the requirements of the WAIRE Program.
