Eneridge Set to Deploy 6 Ultra-Fast FreeWire Chargers in California by 2023
On August 7, 2020, the California Energy Commission released a Grant Solicitation and Application Package titled “BESTFIT Innovative Charging Solutions” under the Clean Transportation Program. This competitive grant solicitation offered to fund projects that demonstrate transformative technology solutions and work to accelerate the successful commercial deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging for both light, medium, and heavy-duty applications. Eneridge won this grant in 2021 by demonstrating that the “Boost Charger™”, a battery-integrated ultra-fast charger by FreeWire Technologies, is a technically and economically viable solution for the mass deployment of public ultrafast charging stations without significant grid impact or changes to existing electrical infrastructure.
Boost Charger can be installed without significant infrastructure modification, retrofits efficiently to existing chargers (including Level 1 and Level 2 chargers), and contains lower installation costs and demand charges compared to conventional fast-charging stations. Moreover, Eneridge’s complete line of EV charging systems differentiate it from its competitors. Eneridge not only provides a total solution of EV charging to its clients, but also owns and operates its EV charging stations — Eneridge performs project development, provides users with a cloud-based platform, installs, and maintains the chargers, and provides carbon credit trading service. For Eneridge’s initiation of the innovative battery-integrated ultra-fast charger into the EV charging market, as well as its smart business model, Eneridge was selected by the Commission to disperse Boost Chargers throughout Southern California.
Upon receiving the BESTFIT grant, Eneridge began to deploy two 150kW FreeWire chargers in each of the three respective locations—Eastlake Village Center in Chula Vista, Irvine Trabuco Center, and another soon to be announced location in the City of Irvine. Installation will demonstrate, technological advance in DCFC station solution by installing 150kW DCFCs only utilizing available electric capacity in existing electrical distribution or by replacing existing level 2 chargers without any electrical equipment upgrade. The Eastlake Village Center charging station will be operational starting Q2 of 2023.
